UNICEF & The Killers :: Goodnight, Travel Well

One of my favorite bands, The Killers, have collaborated with UNICEF, MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) and the US Agency for International Development, on a new music video that raises awareness about sex trafficking. The video is for the song ‘Goodnight, Travel Well’ from The Killer’s latest album Day & Age and is directed by David Slade.

"We are deeply shocked and appalled that women and children are forced into such exploitative situations,” explained a spokesperson for The Killers. “We hope that through MTV's efforts, and this powerful video, millions of people across the world learn about this tragic form of modern-day slavery."

It’s never too late to break free

Pretty powerful and witty campaign by Australian ‘Adults Surviving Child Abuse’ organization. The ads show that some wounds never heal, and it’s never too late to seek help if you were abused as a kid. While we can’t take back what happened and change the past, we can help change the future. If you were abused as a child, please seek help. Also make sure to support your local organization that helps these victims.

Pink & Ricky Gervais in PETA 'Stolen For Fashion' Ad

Singer Pink and the extremely funny British actor Ricky Gervais collaborate with PETA on this new spot ‘Stolen for Fashion’. The stars play two animal characters who were robbed of their skin and fur by the fashion industry. They confront the people who buy these blood-smeared goods (and consequently keep the bloody business rolling), and they are not happy!

The spot was directed by Ross Ludwig and Shawn Preston with CGI animation by Method Studios and editing by Optimus.

Anti Smoking PSA Awareness Ads

Pretty cool anti-smoking ads by ad agency Bleublancrouge in collaboration with the Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) in a bid to combat the smoking addiction in India. The ads show that contrary to what we believe, “cigarettes smoke people” rather than ‘people smoke cigarettes.’

‘’The Bleublancrouge concept for the Cancer Patients Aid Association is hard-hitting and it will definitely make a difference in society,’’ explained Anita Peter, Director of the CPAA. ‘’We need to create more awareness about this emerging epidemic.’’

Gaëtan Namouric, who is the Executive Vice-President and Creative Director at Bleublancrouge, said: ‘’This is a simple yet very clever way of telling smokers that the cigarette is always winning.’’

The ads were photographed by Leda & St-Jacques.

Greenpeace Japan Whaling Tattoo Campaign

Greenpeace is following the example of PETA (see example) for using skin to raise awareness about issues. Greenpeace collaborated with Leo Burnett Hong Kong on these ads that use tattoos to illustrate the awfulness of the whaling process in Japan through traditional body art. The ads tell you, “Not all traditions deserve to be preserved. Put an end to whaling in Japan.”

Beautiful Day For Cancer!

BeautifulCancer2

Australian hip-hop artist Al Bino collaborated with Lyrics Born on the song ‘It’s a Beautiful Day for Cancer’ for an Australian skin cancer benefit project. It’s a rather unusual tongue-in-cheek style to raise awareness about cancer, but hey, anything that works to warn the youth of the danger of skin cancer and how we an avoid it is good in my book.

iDead

iDead Campaign

Here is a new campaign raising the awareness to the danger of listening to music on your iPod or MP3 player while crossing the road. The number of fatalities is increasing at an alarming rate, so the New South Wales police department came up with this creative campaign to educate the public.

I think it is a very important issue. A small error in judgment from you or from a reckless driver can lead to permanent disability or death. I personally listen to my iPod shuffle frequently while walking and commuting. I usually decrease the volume while crossing the road so that I can hear the cars as well as see them, however from now on I will try to pause it all together. I can live with iBored not iDead...

Also, if you are driving, don't get too distracted by your phone (sending SMS while driving!!) or other gadgets. Be safe and let others be safe.
