Crying Men

'Crying Men' is a collection of photographic portraits of famous film actors by Sam Taylor-Wood showing what it looks like when Hollywwod men cry.

Taylor-Wood explains, "Some of the men cried before I even finished loading the camera, but others found it really difficult. People can decide for themselves which they think are the authentic tears and which they think are fake. It's about the idea of taking these big, masculine men and showing a different side."

The portraits include Tim Roth, Jude Law, Robert Downey Jr., Robin Williams, Paul Newman, Ed Harris, Benicio Del Toro, Hayden Christiansen, Ryan Gosling, Gabriel Byrne, Laurence Fishburne, Woody Harrelson, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe, and Kris Kristofferson.

UPDATE

Seeing that many people are interested in these portraits, I have added a new post with 10 more photographs.

You're right gina, I will add his name. Though the list is more of an "including", not really listing each name. But I love Williams :)

easy to see why sean penn is crying; his left leg has swelled to twice the size of the right... probably painful

I would find this series a *lot* more poignant if it weren't of American Aristocracy. The obvious question becomes "what do these men really have to cry about?" Show me an old farmer shedding a tear over a fallow field if you want me to feel something.

We are all human. The tears of an farmer are not more worth or more genuine than those of an "aristocrat".

This is about showing an emotional side of men. It's about the actors as humans. They are not playing a role. So yeah, you wont see a farmer in a feild, because actors dont usually do that in real life.

The same way we say the life of a poor man has the same value of a rich man. The tears of rich man have the same value of a poor man...

That pic of Larry Fishburne crying is one of the scariest things I've seen all month.

I think the big part of these portraits is that usually we don't see Hollywood people crying, period. they have such a polished image it's a shock.

how about a new series where they're having a food fight or pissing or aren't wearing any makeup?

This is a great anti-Art of Manliness post---btw, I assume that site is somewhat tongue-in-cheek--- and the pics are amazing. Honestly, people who don't cry (men included) scare me. It's part of life!

It's amazing! You watch through these photos these actors' human side. They make you want to go and hug them! Perfect!

Tears are worth more depending on why you're crying. This is called Professor Solemn's Tear Scale. The tears of an aristocrat crying because he can't go to the ball as he has a late lunch, are not the same as Cinderella's tears because she can't go to the ball.
