THE Best Album of 2007 >> Alive 2007
Daft Punk's Alive 2007 is hands down my absolute favorite 2007 album. It was released on November 19, 2007. It is the second album recorded live by Daft Punk, following Alive 1997. Alive 2007 features their performance at Bercy in Paris from June 14, 2007.
The live album takes awesome Daft Punk songs and magically makes them much more awesome. Each song contains elements of a couple of Daft Punk songs, and you can hear the raw energy and feel it in your body. Even if you are not a Daft Punk fan, you have to listen to these.

JIMMMMMMMMMMMMY
I must admit that even with all the critical acclaim it garnered, I only liked a few songs off M.I.A's KALA album. But these few songs were absolutely amazing. Jimmy is one of those songs that grab you from the first listen and do not let go. The song is a complete paradox. Musically, it is so upbeat and happy. Yet, the lyrics combine the traditional decades old Indian folklore song with some serious stuff like the start of the song:
'When you go Rwanda Congo, Take me on ya genocide tour,
Take me on a truck to Darfur, Take me where you would go'

Apple Commercial Magic >> Yael Naim
I just noticed that Yael Naïm has debuted at #2 on iTunes songs chart with 'New Soul'. It is quite an achievement that got me curious as to what prompted this instant success. After a quick investigation I found out that her song is used in the new MacBook Air commercial. All hail the power of the Apple!!!
I've been quite familiar with Yael for over a year. Even before her newfound commercial fame, she made her debut here within the first week of this blog's existence. I featured a video of her excellent cover of Britney's 'Toxic' (see Piece of Britney).
For those who do not know her (most people), Yael Naim was born in Paris in 1978 to Jewish-Tunisian parents (Arab Jew). At the age of four, she moved with her family to Ramat HaSharon, Israel, where she learned Hebrew and trained as a pianist. Her first solo album, In A Man's Womb, was released in 2001 and her second, Yael Naim, was released in October, 2007 in France peaking at number 11. Her style has been described as having a touch of folk and jazz, with mysterious and evocative words sung with a delicate and intentionally slightly husky voice. I myself find traces of Fiest, Sia, a lil Bjork instrument experimentation, Imogen Heap (Frou Frou) and Natasha Bedingfield in her songs. She delivers the goods and I believe she is worthy of this instant fame bestowed upon her by his highness, Steve. I put five English songs from her new album below, give your ears a treat!

EuroPop 1 >> Basshunter : Cascada : Guetta
Here's something to warm you up for the weekend action.
Cascada did the impossible with 'Everytime We Touch' becoming a top 10 US hit a while back. It's damn hard for a typical euro pop/ dance song to do well on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Now they are back with 'What Hurts The Most' and it's doing pretty well so far (#61). Below you can listen to and/or download the US Radio and Yanou's Candlelight Mix of What Hurts. The Candlelight mix is a Piano version that emphasizes the beauty of the voice and lyrics without the techno beats (similar to Rascal Flatts' country version) and is a must have!
Basshunter's 'Now You're Gone' has been #1 in the UK for the last three weeks and is starting to get US airplay as well. Besides his huge #1, Swedish singer and producer Jonas Erik Altberg of Basshunter has the cyberspace abuzz with leaked explicit pictures of him having sex. Free New Song >> Sophie Ellis Bextor
Sophie Ellis Bextor has asked her management (Wallace Productions) and record company (Fascination Records) to make availabe a free new song 'Love is the law' on her official site as a way of apology for postponing her Spring tour. The song is pretty good with uptempo beats. Sophie is currently in the studio completing new tracks for an upcoming Greatest Hits album that is scheduled for late spring release. I think that is a super nice gesture towards the fans. Go Sophie!
